Dine Out for Seniors Meals on Wheels

Bay Area Restaurants Rally To Support
Meals On Wheels “Dine Out” Program

One Day Fundraiser on October 4th, 2011
to Help Feed Seniors Across Seven Counties

In response to the precarious economy and extensive budget cuts that have put considerable pressure on local support services, specifically for senior citizens, Meals on Wheels agencies in seven Bay Area counties have organized the second annual Bay Area Dine Out fundraising event. Nearly doubling restaurant participation over last year, more than 200 local restaurants (and counting) throughout the East Bay, South Bay, San Francisco, North Bay, and Peninsula have risen to the occasion and partnered with their dining clientele and the Dine Out program to help raise much needed funding for daily hot meal delivery to homebound seniors.

Diners will also have the opportunity to make donations at each restaurant that will go directly to the local Meals on Wheels program in their community. In Sonoma County - it;s Council on Aging - if you don;t have Dine Out for Seniors - donate anyway! http://councilonaging.com/?page_id=394

Bay Area Meals on Wheels agencies provide nearly 3 million meals each year to over 9,000 local seniors in need of a daily hot, nutritious meal, a wellness check and companionship. Beyond the nutritious meals provided to homebound seniors over the age of 60, Meals on Wheels helps seniors to live at home in safety, comfort and with dignity for as long as possible. Recent state and county budget cuts have eliminated support for thousands of low income seniors receiving assistance through in-home supportive services. These seniors are now forced to turn to agencies like Meals on Wheels, placing substantial strain on program resources already under significant stress to meet the needs of a growing, aging community.
