When in Windsor - July 2011

2011 Summer Nights On The Green

Thanks to the generosity of its sponsors, the Windsor Town Green is once again host to free events and activities for everyone this summer.

Tuesdays June 14th - August 16th are free movie nights. Starting 15 minutes after sunset a family-friendly movie plays on a giant inflatable screen. Apparently everyone likes watching movies while lying on a blanket under the stars as much as I do because the whole town comes out. Folks put out chairs as early as 10:00 a.m.

Thursday evenings June 16th - August 25th have a free Concert and farmers market. This is the place to be from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. If you can’t find parking, there is a shuttle between the Windsor High School Parking lot and the Town Green from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. For those biking and strolling, there is free valet bicycle and stroller parking at the farmers market. Motorcycle parking is on Duvander Lane at the west end of the Town Green.

Of course, in every utopia there must be some ground rules. Riding bikes, skates, scooters, and boards is not allowed on the Town Green during the events. Dogs must be on a leash and under the control of their owner. Smoking is not allowed.

As for seating, roping off private areas is not allowed. There are also height restrictions depending on where you sit. The center lawn wedges are reserved for blankets and low-to-the-ground lawn and beach chairs. The tallest point, be it chair or person, may be no higher than 42 inches from the ground to ensure even the smallest visitors can see the action. The outer grass wedges are reserved for standard size lawn and beach chairs. Canopies are allowed, but only on the southwest lawn wedge behind the Time Line Walk. And to prevent damage the grass, blankets may be placed but not spread out until after 4:30 p.m.
