Photography Exhibit at Petaluma Airport 

Visions From Above, a one day reception and sale of prints created by leading aerial photographers from around the world takes place at the Petaluma Municipal Airport, Saturday, October 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This free event is sponsored by the Lagunitas Brewing Company, which is providing its renowned India Pale Ale for event attendees, by the Professional Aerial Photographers Association, the Petaluma Arts Center, Warren Percell Studios and Aerial Archives.

Event organizer Airport Muse, a firm dedicated to bringing fine art events to airport venues, has created several events at the Petaluma Airport and manages exhibits in the FAA towers at Miami International Airport and Nashville International Airport.

Airport Muse curator and award-winning aerial photographer, Herb Lingl notes that “we are fortunate to have this extensive collection of high quality aerial photography created by aerial photographers from around the world on display and for sale in one place." Included in the exhibit are prints of California based David Bryne’s award winning aerial photography, Moscow based aerial photographer Alex Bogdanov, Montreal based aerial photographer, Yves Tremblay, New York aerial photographers Arnie Itzkowitz and Lee Ross and Australian aerial photographer Andrew Griffiths.

Numerous northern California businesses have donated prizes for the raffle which takes place toward the conclusion of the event.  Raffle prize donors include Aeroventure, the Green String Farm, Heloventure, Robert Leonard, Vistage Group Chair, the Petaluma Arts Center, Trade-A-Plane publishing, Warren Percell Studios, TailwheelFerryPilot.com, PetalumaPilotSupplies.com and Aerial Archives.  Trade-A-Plane will provide a copy of the current issue of their magazine (a $3 value) to each purchaser of $5 raffle tickets while supplies last.  A list of raffle prizes is being updated as they are confirmed at:  http://www.aerialarchives.com/airportmuse-raffleprizes.htm.

Raffle proceeds benefit the Petaluma Arts Center and the Western Horizon Flying Museum, dedicated to keeping historical aircraft flying.  TheWestern Horizon Flying Museum is unique among aviation museums since it provides no static aircraft displays; visitors can only visit the museum as flight students, flight instructors or passengers unless they are mechanics working on the aircraft.

Concurrent with the exhibit of aerial photography are presentations about flying and maintaining specific historical aircraft.  These presentations include Patrick Belanger’s discussion about flying the Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star, Ann Elsbach’s presentation about flying the Luscombe and presentations about flying the North American T-6 Texan, the Antonov AN-2 and about maintaining historical aircraft from an aviation mechanic’s perspective.

 “The diversity of the pilot community at the Petaluma airport is one of the unique aspects of this particular airport,” notes Bob Patterson, airport manager of the Petaluma Municipal Airport.  “Having an exhibit of fine art aerial photography here adds another dimension to the remarkable story of the Petaluma Airport.”  Petaluma was the site of the very first airmail delivery of a letter from one postmaster to another in 1911, and has a colorful history as it evolved into its present form.

Known as one of the most vibrant general aviation airports in the world, the airport is home to unique aircraft owned by a diverse group of individuals ranging from retired airline pilots to experimental aircraft builders and designers and foreign nationals who enjoy the added freedom of aviation in theUnited States.
