Cazadero Communications - October 2011

The sun has resumed shining after an early morning rain! As I peer out of the windows of my cosy cyber-hut, I can tell that Autumn is here.

The next meeting of the Cazadero Community Club will be on Tuesday,  Oct.  4th-7 p.m.  at the Firehall.  Join them in planning fabulous events,  which benefit the entire community such as the very popular Old Time BBQ held recently.  Attracting a large group of happy eaters,  this year’s BBQ also had a great “bucket raffle”,  pie contest and dessert table,  games and live music!

A chicken dinner fundraiser was held for the Cazadero Baptist Camp,  which also houses the excellent Cazadero Disaster Site trailer. The Annual Holiday Crafts Fair will be on Saturday, November 12th, from 10-4 p.m., also at the Firehall. A pleasant day, with many lovely handcrafted gifts and tasty lunch and dessert items.

The Cazadero Community Market continues to offer up delicious local produce, eggs, body products and jewelry-each Saturday from 10-1 p. m. The nearby Sky Garden has been full of tasty veggies and always needs folks to assist this great endeavor.

Cazadero Supply offers its 1st Saturday 15%-off discount on all manner of useful household, gardening and vehicle products.  The Cazadero General Stores features great grocery items and some of Raymond’s Bakery’s delectable baked goods. Raymonds continues to have terrific breads, cookies and in-season baked goods, plus Friday Pizza NIghts have expanded to include all kinds of fabulous local live music!

The Midland School of Los Olivos, California announces that Marcus Schmidt, son of Cazaderans Susan Avant and Timothy Schmidt, will be one of 2 School Prefects, with responsibility for much of the school’s daily operations.

Our own Montgomery Elementary School will once again engage the students with terrific classes and inspiring field trips, such as the overnight one to Ft. Ross coming up, which also includes teacher Elizabeth Weiss’s Ft. Ross School 3-5th graders.  There will also be an overnight living history trip to the Petaluma Adobe, also combining classes from both schools. Call the school to arrange to buy spring flower bulbs from the K-2nd graders.  The 6th-8th graders are getting in shape for their fall jog-a-thon, which helps them raise money for their field trips. Carol from the Guerneville Library visits on Oct. 19th to read wonderful stories for all. Levi Leipheimer of Grand Fondo and other fame will also visit with a presentation on bicycle racing.

Happy October birthdays to Darius Drexhage celebrating # 24 on Oct. 5th, with Matthew Tyson turning 21 on the 6th.  Josh Ritter will be 19 on Oct. 13th, which is also my birthday! Marilyn Buss celebrates on the 24th and Budi Luna has his day on the 28th! L’Shana Tova/Happy Jewish New Year of 5772 to all!

Have a wonderful Autumn, be fire-safe and call me at 632-5545 or email mayawrld@sonic. net with info for your Cazadero Column!
