Homeless Shelter in the Russian River Area

Be Part of the SOLUTION
River Area Shelter and Downtown (RASAD)

Task Group Schedules 2nd Community Meeting In July, County officials sought a permanent solution to address the needs of homeless people in the lower Russian River area. In response to this call to action, the Sonoma County Community Development Commission established the River Area Shelter and Downtown (RASAD) Task Group.

Made up of local residents and representatives from downtown businesses, social service agencies and County government, the Task Group is a diverse group of people with differing points of view on the issues under consideration. Its goal is to develop a comprehensive set of recommendations that will address the needs of the community and present them to the County. The Task Group is committed to formulating a workable solution once implemented.

On August 1 of this year, the Task Group held its first public meeting, reviewed the work undertaken to date, potential service delivery methods and possible shelter locations. Well attended by community members, the August session also allowed the Task Group to collect valuable public input which it has since incorporated into its work process.

As promised, the RASAD Task Group is now ready to host a second community meeting. It is scheduled for November 3 and will be held at the Veterans Hall in Guerneville (at the corner of Church and First Streets) from 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm. Refreshments will be served.

Prior to this meeting, a document containing all of the recommendations developed by the Task Group will be circulated and available for review by the public. The purpose of this second RASAD Task Group community meeting is to collect and respond to feedback generated by the recommendations set forward. The meeting is intended to be an open and productive discussion, and all community members are invited to participate.

The Task Group is excited to share their recommendations with the community and is eager to hear your and your neighbors’ thoughts. Please pick up the set of recommendations beginning October 31, 2011 at the Guerneville Chamber of Commerce office, the Guerneville Library, or online at the RASAD website (http://www.sonoma-county.org/cdc/rd_rr_tg_rasad.htm).
