Russian River Summer Bridges Saved in Budget

County to Install Critical Summer
River Crossings
Board action during budget saved summer crossings
at Asti and Vacation Beach

As part of the 2011-2012 Adopted County Budget, the Board of Supervisors restored funding for the installation of the summer river crossings at Asti Road in Asti and at Vacation Beach near the community of Guerneville. The $52,500 cost was covered from the County’s fund for contingencies and will install both the Asti Summer Bridge and the Vacation Beach crossing in Guerneville.

Board Chairman and Fifth District Supervisor Efren Carrillo commented, “Effective access to rural communities is vital. Summer crossings help connect communities and ensure our emergency responders can get there in time.”

Fourth District Supervisor Mike McGuire commented, “Even in difficult budget times, these seasonal river crossings are critical to the safety needs of local residents. Sixty percent of the region’s summertime fire response comes from the south, so without the Asti summer bridge, fire and medical response would be delayed by more than 15 minutes. I am glad we were able to preserve these services which protect people and property.”

The Asti Summer crossing and Vacation Beach will be installed on June 28th and remain in place until they are removed in mid-fall.
